Private MRI scans

These are a vital tool in the diagnosis of some injuries.  Occasionally we may recommend that you need an MRI scan to assist your recovery.

Alternatively, having been told by your GP that you are to be referred for an MRI scan, but you may be fed up of the wait. We can offer you a speedy solution and access to an MRI scan with a private referral.

What is an MRI Scan and is it safe?

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) is a fairly new technique that has been used since the beginning of the 1980s.

The MRI scan uses magnetic and radio waves, meaning that there is no exposure to X-rays or any other damaging forms of radiation.

What will it show and how will it help you?

Using an MRI scanner, it is possible to make pictures of almost all the tissue in the body.

Having viewed the pictures of your injured body part, the radiologist that we use can then compile a report outlining the type and severity of the injury and give a more accurate diagnosis and prognosis (type and length of time the injury will persist).

We will then liaise with the radiologist who will suggest possible treatment options to best cure your condition as quickly and safely as possible.

Unlike an X-Ray, an MRI scan is able to view soft tissue, discs, tumours, the heart and brain as well as bone.

Cost

We must make it clear that you will be responsible for the cost of the scan.  However we will ensure you are able to get an extremely competitive price .

As a matter of common courtesy, when and if we suggest an MRI scan, we will always recommend that you initially consult your GP to discuss the possibility/likelihood of an MRI referral through the NHS. This route will of course be free of any cost to you and thus is our preferred method of accessing a scan.

If you deem the route to be too complicated or the waiting list too long, then we will be happy to help following careful consideration of all options.

Waiting time

We can usually keep waiting to a maximum of seven days and the results will usual be returned to you within 72hours.

We will then invite you back to our clinic to discuss the results and together with your Physiotherapist a decision made of what needs to happen next to achieve a speedy recovery.
